We write blogs because we feel it’s a more casual way of communicating to everybody. However, if we look at some of our archived entries, we find that they are misspelled, inaccurate and have other mistakes we never discovered the time we published them. Clearly, there is a need to review past entries and make necessary edits.

To correct misspelled terms
Even with red underlines that highlight wrong spelling, sometimes we make these silly mistakes. However, as it’s a casual means of communication, I think that it’s more tolerated than committing a mistake at a certain section of a website that should be perfectly written.

To correct inaccurate information
We sometimes write blogs even when information we convey isn’t publicly available. Or maybe we’re not yet aware of it. Then we realize we made a mistake by plugging in wrong info. The lack of it makes our blog post uninteresting and therefore lack credibility. We should then fix previous posts and update them with accurate information.

To optimize for better search engine visibility
We used to write just for the sake of it and we didn’t consider search engines then. One day we found out that most people who look for information found on our previous blogs are using certain terms that we didn’t use at all. So our pages nowhere near top search engine results. Editing previous posts might remedy the problem.

To add text or more images
We can update a blog by adding more text content. For example, if we are weighing in more pros and cons about something, an updated blog might be able to look at more angles behind these pros and cons. Adding relevant images definitely makes a blog entry more attractive to read.

To integrate user comments / feedback
User comments are often sources of great information. Once I find a comment that clearly adds value to my blog, I almost always update my blog and acknowledge the feedback by writing a new comment below it.

Importance of editing your blog may vary according to the purpose of your blog. Are you just posting random thoughts and hobbies or trying to establish a reputation for yourself on a niche topic? No matter how significant your blog is to you, editing them once in a while helps us preserve our sanity online and help minimize garbage dumped into the web.
